Henry L. Perkins, Pastor

Rev. Henry L. Perkins was called to pastor the First Baptist Church family in August of 1991.  Since that time he has established himself as a remarkable influential servant leader.  Pastor Perkins’ modus operandi includes strong biblical teaching, victorious Christian living, and a holistic approach to improving the lives of people.

Pastor Perkins is a prolific academian.  He earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from the College of Alameda, a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Theology from Golden Gate School of Theology, and a Master of Divinity Degree from American Baptist Seminary of the West.  His hunger and desire to be enriched intellectually and spiritually has led him to study at San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, California where he is currently a candidate for a doctorate of ministry degree.

His professional expertise includes Adjunct Professor at American Baptist Seminary of the West, Consultant for Church & Community Development, Consultant for On Track Resource, Inc. (support for community-based organizations, neighborhood groups and public agencies that provide services to improve the health and well being of communities with economic and social disadvantages).  His professional experience also includes budget development and maintenance, real estate sales and listings, first time home buyers workshops, mortgage loan solicitations and underwriting.

Remarkably, Pastor Perkins still finds time to serve in religious, community and civil affiliations.  He is currently Vice President at Large for the California State Baptist Convention and Chaplain for the City of Pittsburg Police Department.  He is a member of the Pastoral Services Team at John Muir Medical Center, a member of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Association of Realtors, Oakland branch.  In addition, Pastor Perkins served as past President for the Home and Foreign Mission District Association, past President for the Inter-Denominational Ministerial Alliance of Pittsburg, Inc., and past Commissioner of Leisure Service Board in the city of Pittsburg.  In August of 2011, Pastor Perkins was selected to attend The University of Oxford in England as a participant in the Oxford Round Table Discussion on Religion, Education and Government.

As a progressive visionary, Pastor Perkins leads the people of God in enriched worship services with his practical, yet insightful and charismatic preaching style.  His spiritual leadership is demonstrated in Christian growth classes and bible study.  His ministry extends beyond the walls of First Baptist Church with the organization of various outreach ministries such as the Tutorial Enrichment Program, Social Services Program, Christian Counseling Center, and Evangelistic Outreach.

Pastor Perkins is dedicated to using his gifts to glorify God and edify God’s people.  He is committed to leading the people of God into abundant living, holding fast to holiness, integrity and Godly purpose.  Pastor Perkins is an avid family man and enjoys a passionate and enriching life with his wife, Patricia, their two young adults, Enree and Enjoli, and new grandson, Xavier.
